I found this in the Lotus Software KnowledgeBase today:
“New to Lotus NotesĀ® 8.0.1 mail files is a Mail Quota Status indicator which displays information about current mail file usage and allocation.”
For more details, read document #1291598 in the Lotus Software KnowledgeBase
nicht Neues!!!

@Christian: Not new, I know. But you do not have to build it into the software by yourself. It’s part of the software and supported.
eknori , the Mail Quota Status Indicator is available in Lotus Notes 8.0.1, but it’ll work only if the mail database is based on the Notes 8.0.1 mail8.ntf version, it doesn’t matter even if you’re using Notes 8.0.1 client.
So what christian has come up with is actually very helpful!
Hi,
Can you advise how I can configure this view on my lotus notes?
I can see my server name but no Mail Quota Status indicator
Thanks,
Raj
