Traveler calendar widget freezes HTC Sense ?

Today I’m having some problems with my HTC Desire ( Android 2.3 ). From time to time, the Home Screen becomes completely black and after a few minutes a message appears saying “HTC Sense no longer responding … “. When I OK the message, the Home Screen is rebuild and the phone works for a couple of minutes.

I googled and foundĀ  a forum entry that described the situation. The article recommended to remove widgets and applications from the Home Screen. After doing so, the issue did no longer occur. I added one application after the other to figure out which one could be the problematic one.

After installing the Traveler calendar widget, the problem re-appears. I then looked into my calendar for further investigation. I found, that I have 5 ToDos for today.

These documents are not displayed in the widget. And, the problem first appeared today. So there must be a coherency.

I moved the docs to another date; this also solved the issue. Anyone else has seen this? Perhaps an already known issue.

  1. Hi Ulrich,

we are running about 130 HTC devices (Desire S, Desire HD and Sensation) with Lotus Traveler and the problem didn’t occured here. I have a Desire as a test device with Android 2.2 and havn’t seen this happen.

Is it the first HTC Desire ? Maybe it is a problem with the crippled Android 2.3 update for the Desire ?

  2. I have similar problems, my Desire (running android 2.2.2) freezes up from time to time, most often when the phone is resting. When i press the powerbutton the screen is completely black, but the lights on the buttons comes on. I’ve tried to wait it out but I usually gets impatient after a few minutes and I remove the battery to get it back up.

I’m not positive it’s related to the Traveler Widget, but it’s one of the Apps on my watch-list, it’s also the only one that is not downloaded from Market.

Now that I think about it, I think this started around the same time as we upgraded Traveler to 8.5.3 and the widgets became available. I’ve had the motherboard changed on my phone and even replaced the phone, but the issue still returns.

  3. This happens for me on a Nexus S running ICS 4.0.3 and I’ve seen a lot of weird slowdowns and crashes when using the widgets – e.g. less forceful haptic feedback when typing, smart button lights lighting up without the screen, slow response to entering pincodes, etc.

I reported it to IBM Support and their response is that it will be fixed in the next release. Further details below.

“I found that the widgets get “disconnected” from the main Traveler service if the service stops for any reason. It appears that Android may prod the widgets to update from time to time and this should cause them to reconnect. We are looking at a way keep the widgets connected.

Traveler will notify widgets there is a change when Traveler starts. This will prompt the widgets to query Traveler and re-establish the connections. I’m making this fix in the 8.5.3.2 fixpack which should be available shortly.”
