Server Console LOCKED!!

I had created a PMR regarding a little problem with Domino 8.5 and Designer. After a while I got an email from support, kindly asking for more information. I should create a console log and therefore enable some settings on the server.

  • set config console_log_enabled=1
  • set config debug_threadid=1
  • start consolelog

This is some kind of standard procedure for IBM support … I did as I was told and typed the first command on the console and confirmed by hitting the return key.

WHOOPS !!! The console is totally locked.

noaccess

After the first shock was over, I mailed IBM support that I cannot send a console log file because blah blah …

IBM immediately called me on the phone and explained that this can happen and I now have to restart the server.

There is an internal technote for this issue. I’m not sure if I can publish it here, but it says that the error occurs, because debug_outfile= is still in the notes.ini.

After investigating the notes.ini on the server it was found that the parameter in question is not in the ini file. …

Your turn now, IBM.

  1. I´m having the same problem with my Lotus Domino 8.5 (without HF or FP)

I opened a PMR too and they don´t have a solution for this problem. My solution is to restart server too.

Why did you had to open a PMR on IBM? I was having some problems with “dbache flush” command. When I type dbcache flush my system stop accepting console commands like show server show tasks or load updall mailfile.nsf.

They asked to me to “input” these variables on console by typing “set config “.

After this I tried to get this problem. Sometimes I just type “show server” and my console LOCKS and appear a icon saying “No Access to Console” (like you message “Kein Zugriff auf Konsole”).

Other detail, the server continues working normally… Only Administrator gets punished with this problem.

Email-me if you if solve this problem.

    thnaks..

  2. Other detail

I´m running Lotus Domino 8.5 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP2 with LANGUAGE PACK Pt-Br (Brasil).

  3. @Gustavo: Console is locked now again for a full day. Typed a “set con … ” at the console and BANG; locked. Normally it unlocks after a few minutes but not in this case. Will have to restart the server on sunday.

  4. Ulrich,

Try to make a new replica of you names.nsf (Domino Directory). When I try to make a new replica of my names.nsf, I got a message “Special Object cannot be located”. I think our names.nsf are corrupted. I made a new replica of names in other server and replace this names.nsf of the problematic server.

Observation: I upgraded my names.nsf from a Domino 6.5.5 to Domino 8.5. I executed the maintenance commands steps in upgrading and everything works fine… Before 3 days my console begins to “hell lock” problems…

Until now my console still working.

By the way, Domino 8.5 have a confirmed bug with “dbache flush”. (I discover this opening a call in support in IBM”…

I monitoring the server, but the problem isnt reproducible…

IBM expects that clients reproduce the problem to solve the problem. The IBM analysts sent to me some variables to put in Domino notes.ini and client notes.ini. They want to know what is happening in client and Domino when this problem occur.

Other thing -> My domino generate a SEMDEBUG when console got locked. My SEMDEBUG file has about 90 Mbytes.

I sent to ibm and they didnt discover anything…

My client (customer) is very unsatisfied and is thinking to change mail enviroment to Exchange (lol).

    Thank You.
