New Toy

s10eYesterday, my new toy, a Lenovo S10e arrived.

It has an Intel Atom 270 processor, 2GB Ram, 160GB HDD and a 10.2” display. The display has a resolution af 1024 by 576. This takes a lot of getting used to.

The OS is Windows XP Sp3. I installed Lotus Notes 8.5 Standard including Admin and Designer client.

I was surprised, how well Lotus Notes runs on this little calculator. Even the Designer opens my mailfile in less than 40 seconds.

The S10e battery runs for almost 5 h with WiFi enabled and a lot of HDD activity during installation and configuration.

  1. I just used mine for demos @ Admin2009. I ran a vmware image running 2 servers plus designer, admin client and notes all going at the same time. It attaches to an external display or projector just fine….. It works great.. You’ll love it. I especially love the weight. I do need mt reading spectacles for a lot of stuff, but the screen is larger than all of the other netbooks I researched…

  2. Just wonder, why mine only recognizes 2GB. It has had 1.5GB when I bought it. I have replaced the original 1GB RAM module by a 2 GB module, so it should be 2.5GB instead of only 2GB.
According to a system check tool, the max. possible Ram is 3GB.

Update: Just found out that the chipset does not support more than 2GB.

  3. I got mine ahead of Lotusphere too, and I can only agree with all the praise. The S10e is performing FAR beyond what I had expected. Running VMWare instances, Domino server, Domino designer etc without choking up at all. It seems the architecture of this thing is very well put together.
I DO have the fan-issue, sadly. The fan just turns on and off and on and off and on and off endlessly. I have tried upgrading the BIOS, but it didn’t help. 🙁

But apart from that, the S10e just rocks. It’s far more solid and has a “quality-feel” that is way better than the other netbooks I’ve tried.
